Game Animation vs TVby red-crystal
3D animations on TV / Movies Toy Story was the first movie with 100 % Computer Generated 3D, then It was followed with Toy Story 2, also 100 % CG. Then there is A Bug's Life 100 % CG. Other than these movies, there are no other movies that are 100 % CG. Other movies are part CG and part real, like Appolo 13.
There are available several television series that uses 100 % CG, Donkey Kong, Starship Troopers, Voltron, etc. But these films only came with ugly character animation (evantough the modeling is pretty fine). Starship Troopers is pretty good but the quality is somehow good at some part, but in other parts they look bad. There are television series that uses 3D animation as a part of a film. Sliders, Space: Above and beyond, Star Trek: Voyager. These films uses 3D animation is their films but not 100 %.
But they still can't beat the 3D animation quality of Tekken. Tekken 3 shows you a smooth character animation (of course oriental martial arts move). Most 3D gaming movies are as good as Tekken 3. Creating a 3D animation as good as Tekken 3 is like a standard is gaming (except for Square, their standards are at the heavens)
Several gaming 3D movies has succesfully create a lovable 3D character such as, Aya Brea (Parasite Eve, Square), Reiko Nagase (Ridge Racer Type 4, Namco), and Rinoa Heartlly (Final Fantasy VIII, Square). This proves that creating a realistic, lifelike character can be done.
A Good example of character modelling is Final Fantasy VIII. The modeling is so near-perfect that we can see Rinoa's hair like real hair (Ending Movie). Motion capture character movements that is really good (Dance scene), every one in the dance scene is acctually moving, with a dance move, and not doing silly things. No TV animation can beat the character animtion nor modelling of Final Fantasy VIII. The opening movie is also good, with facial expression shown clearly. Just by looking at Seifer's face we know how his character is.
